Col. Geu Vang
Mount Gilead, NC, USA
Born in 1939, Col. Vang was raised in Laos. He attended school in Xieng Khouang, Laos in 1946 and then in at a teacher
college in Vientiane Laos 1961. He completed his BA in Agriculture Science and Veterinary Science 1968 in Cambodia.
He served in the French War against the Vietminh from 1953-1954 and then in the US & Vietnam War 1968-1975 where he
advanced to the rank of Colonel.

Geu worked for the Laotian National Treasury from 1961-1964 and at the same time worked with Father Nyiaj Pav and many
other Hmong on language related projects. He has been employed in various capacities including: French Societe Mosellane
HLM Metz Moselle, France 1975-1981, Lutheran Social Services MPLS, MN 1981-1983, University Of MN Agricultural Extension
1983-1984, University Of MN Hospital 1984-1987. Col. Vang currently works for the McRae Industries personnel Office (1987
to present time) for the purpose of leading refugees to a new life. He aids them in ressetlement and helps Hmong find jobs
and get off of public assistance.  

Says Vang: " We should have started this project sooner but now still not to late for it. The older generation who knows the
Hmong language well is almost gone and now we only have few of them still alive. Many young are using Hmong language in
a vulgar way that is no longer attractive. We need to keep our language..."
