DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to assist
the Director of the Latin American Program in
planning, developing, and organizing projects,
conferences, and seminars related to issues of
democratic governance and international
relations in Latin America. This includes
conducting research related to program activities,
identifying and contacting speakers, and
managing the details of organizing and
conducting meetings at the Center or in the
region. Responsibilities also include writing or
editing publications based on Program events
and writing or editing articles and event
summaries for other Wilson Center and Latin
American Program publications. The incumbent
will also assist in the preparation of funding
proposals and narrative reports at the conclusion
of the grant period; take an active part in the
annual Fellowship competition and/or short term
scholar programs; assist with overall program
management and outreach; and perform other
related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires
knowledge of a broad range of issues concerned
with the politics, economics, society, history and
culture of Latin America, as evidenced by an
advanced degree and relevant work experience in
the field of Latin American Studies. Specialized
experience must include:

Ph.D. in the social sciences, with a focus on Latin
American Studies, or equivalent professional
experience (such as an MA in the social sciences
or public policy with an emphasis on Latin
America and a minimum of five years experience
in a U.S.- or Latin America-based research
center).

Excellent writing skills in English and an ability to
write and edit for publication.

Proficiency in Spanish, as evidenced by the ability
to read, speak, and correspond in Spanish.

Work experience related to Latin America.

Ability to establish and maintain good working
relationships and to work effectively as part of a
team, within the Latin American Program, the
Woodrow Wilson Center, and with colleagues in
the region.

Basic knowledge of computer operating systems
to include the ability to use word processing,
conduct research on the Internet, database
management and other software applications.

Work and/or study experience in Latin America.

Record of publication on issues relating to Latin
American politics, economics, or society.
Demonstrated fundraising ability, including

and/or the Southern Cone.
